Statutory Pay Services That Get Every Entitlement Right
SSP, SMP, SPP, and the other statutory payments all have different rates, rules, and qualifying conditions that change regularly. ABM Chartered Accountants calculates and processes every statutory entitlement correctly within your payroll so your employees receive exactly what they are owed.
Every Statutory Payment Calculated and Paid Correctly
Statutory pay covers Statutory Sick Pay, Statutory Maternity Pay, Statutory Paternity Pay, Shared Parental Pay, Statutory Adoption Pay, Parental Bereavement Pay, and Statutory Neonatal Care Pay. Each has its own eligibility criteria, rates, and payment periods. ABM Chartered Accountants manages all of them as part of your payroll, so nothing is miscalculated or missed.
Our ICAEW and ACCA qualified accountants assess each employee’s entitlement, apply the correct rates using HMRC-recognised software, process the payments through your payroll, and recover what you can from HMRC via your Employer Payment Summary. From the first day of absence to the final payment, we handle it all.

Correct Payments, Proper Records, Full Recovery
From April 2026, SSP is payable from the first day of sickness with no waiting days and no lower earnings limit. These are the biggest changes to SSP in decades. Getting the calculations wrong means either underpaying your employee or overpaying and being unable to recover the cost. ABM Chartered Accountants applies the new rules correctly from day one.
Most employers can recover 92 percent of SMP, SPP, SAP, ShPP, SPBP, and SNCP from HMRC. Small employers with total Class 1 NIC of 45,000 pounds or less in the previous tax year can recover 103 percent. We make sure every recovery claim goes through your EPS on time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here are answers to the statutory pay questions we hear most often. Contact our team for tailored guidance.
What changed with SSP from April 2026?
From April 2026, SSP is payable from the first day of sickness instead of the fourth. The three-day waiting period and the Lower Earnings Limit have both been removed. For low earners, SSP is now the lower of 123.25 pounds per week or 80 percent of average weekly earnings.
How long is Statutory Maternity Pay paid for?
SMP is paid for up to 39 weeks. The first 6 weeks are paid at 90 percent of average weekly earnings with no cap. The remaining 33 weeks are paid at the lower of 194.32 pounds per week or 90 percent of average weekly earnings.
Can fathers take paternity leave in separate blocks?
Yes. From April 2024, fathers and partners can take Statutory Paternity Pay as two separate one-week blocks instead of consecutively. The rate is 194.32 pounds per week or 90 percent of average weekly earnings, whichever is lower.
Can I recover statutory payments from HMRC?
You can recover 92 percent of SMP, SPP, SAP, ShPP, SPBP, and SNCP through your Employer Payment Summary. Small employers with Class 1 NIC of 45,000 pounds or less in the previous tax year can recover 103 percent. SSP cannot be recovered from HMRC.
What is Statutory Neonatal Care Pay?
SNCP was introduced in April 2025 for parents whose baby requires neonatal care in the first 28 days after birth. It is paid for up to 12 weeks at the same rate as other statutory payments. ABM Chartered Accountants processes SNCP within your payroll.
How much do your statutory pay services cost?
Statutory pay processing is included as part of our payroll service. Fees are based on the number of employees and your payroll frequency. Contact ABM Chartered Accountants for a transparent, fixed-fee quote tailored to your business.
