End of Period Statement Support and What Replaced It
If you are searching for end-of-period statement support, HMRC withdrew the EOPS before Making Tax Digital for Income Tax went live. Its year-end adjustments now sit within your final declaration, and ABM Chartered Accountants handles every one of them.
Year-End Finalisation Under Current MTD Rules
The End of Period Statement was originally designed as a separate MTD step where each business confirmed its figures and applied accounting adjustments before the final declaration. HMRC removed it as a simplification measure announced at Autumn Statement 2023, so there is no EOPS to file. The adjustments themselves still matter and are now made per business inside the final declaration process.
Our year-end finalisation service reviews each sole trade and property business, applies disallowable expenses, capital allowances, accruals and private use adjustments, and prepares the figures for submission.

Why Year-End Adjustments Still Matter
Nothing over-taxed: Capital allowances, losses and reliefs are applied correctly so quarterly estimates are refined into an accurate liability.
Nothing under-declared: Disallowable costs and private use are adjusted before submission, avoiding enquiries and penalties.
Per-business accuracy: Each sole trade and property business is finalised separately as HMRC requires.
Current rules applied: You avoid following outdated EOPS guidance that still circulates online and in older software.
Smooth final declaration: Finalised figures flow straight into your tax return with no last-minute reworking.

End of Period Statement FAQs
Answers to common questions about the End of Period Statement and how year-end adjustments now work under MTD.
Is the End of Period Statement still required?
No. HMRC withdrew the EOPS as a simplification announced at Autumn Statement 2023, before MTD for Income Tax began in April 2026. There is no separate statement to file.
What replaced the End of Period Statement?
The accounting and tax adjustments the EOPS was meant to capture are now made for each business within the final declaration process, submitted through compatible software by 31 January.
Which year-end adjustments do you apply?
Disallowable expenses, private use of assets and vehicles, capital allowances, accruals and prepayments, stock, loss relief claims and any sector-specific items such as CIS deductions or property finance costs.
Do I lose reliefs because of the change?
No. Every relief and allowance available under Self Assessment remains available under MTD. The change only removed a separate confirmation step, not any entitlement to claim reliefs or allowances at year end.
My software still shows an EOPS step?
Some older guidance and software screens have not been updated. We confirm the correct current process in your platform and complete finalisation the way HMRC now expects.
When should year-end finalisation start?
Soon after 5 April, once the fourth quarterly update is submitted. Starting early leaves time for tax planning and avoids a rush before the 31 January deadline.
