About Our MTD Services

Making Tax Digital Support for UK Businesses

Making Tax Digital (MTD) is HMRC’s programme for replacing paper records and annual returns with digital record keeping and regular online submissions. MTD for VAT already applies to every VAT-registered business. MTD for Income Tax began on 6 April 2026 for sole traders and landlords with qualifying income above £50,000, and the threshold drops to £30,000 in April 2027 and £20,000 in April 2028.

Our ICAEW and ACCA qualified accountants assess which rules apply to you, migrate your records to compatible software, and manage every HMRC submission so nothing is missed.

Benefits of MTD Support

Why MTD Compliance Pays Off

Avoid HMRC penalties: Late quarterly updates and returns earn penalty points, and four points trigger a £200 fine. We file everything on time.

Real-time tax visibility: Digital records show your income, expenses and estimated tax liability throughout the year, not just at year end.

Fewer errors: Automated bank feeds and receipt capture remove manual entry mistakes that lead to enquiries and corrections.

Time back for your business: Four quarterly submissions plus a final declaration can consume days each year. We handle them for you.

Better planning: Accurate quarterly figures make tax-efficient decisions on salary, dividends and pension contributions far easier.

Making Tax Digital FAQs

Answers to the questions UK businesses, sole traders and landlords ask most often about Making Tax Digital (MTD) compliance.

Who needs to use Making Tax Digital?

All VAT-registered businesses must follow MTD for VAT. Sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000 joined MTD for Income Tax in April 2026, with lower thresholds following in 2027 and 2028.

Qualifying income is your total gross income from self-employment and property before expenses. Employment income, dividends, pensions and savings interest are excluded when HMRC checks whether you meet the threshold.

Quarterly updates are due on 7 August, 7 November, 7 February and 7 May each tax year. Your final declaration, which replaces the Self Assessment return, is due by 31 January.

Yes, but only if bridging software digitally links your spreadsheet to HMRC. Most clients find cloud accounting software simpler, and we can recommend and configure the right option for you.

HMRC uses a points system. Each late submission earns a point and four points trigger a £200 penalty. No points apply to late quarterly updates in the 2026 to 2027 tax year.

Yes. As your authorised agent we register you with HMRC, set up compatible software, maintain your digital records and submit every quarterly update and final declaration on your behalf.
