PAYE Registration and Setup
What We Do

Registered, Set Up, and Ready to Pay

PAYE registration is required if you pay any employee or director 96 pounds or more per week. HMRC needs to know before your first payday, and the process can take up to 15 working days. ABM Chartered Accountants registers your business, obtains your employer reference numbers, and sets up everything you need.

Our ICAEW and ACCA qualified accountants handle the HMRC application, configure your Government Gateway account, set up HMRC-recognised payroll software, register you with a workplace pension provider, and process your first pay run with the initial RTI submission. You start employing with full compliance from the very first payment.

What Our PAYE Setup Service Covers

Ongoing Compliance

Continued payroll processing and HMRC reporting after setup so your PAYE runs smoothly every period.

Why It Matters

Get It Right Before Your First Payday

Mistakes at the registration stage create problems that follow your payroll for years. A wrong tax code on your first employee, a missed pension duty, or a late RTI submission all trigger penalties or corrections that cost time and money. ABM Chartered Accountants sets everything up properly from the start so none of that happens.

Getting your PAYE right from day one also means you can claim the Employment Allowance of 10,500 pounds for 2025/26, reducing your employer NIC bill immediately. We make sure this and every other entitlement is in place from your very first Employer Payment Summary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to the PAYE registration questions we hear most often. Contact our team for tailored guidance.

When do I need to register for PAYE?

You must register as an employer with HMRC before your first payday if you pay any employee or director 96 pounds or more per week, which is 5,000 pounds per year. You cannot register more than two months before you start paying people.

HMRC typically takes 5 to 15 working days to process your application and send your Employer PAYE Reference and Accounts Office Reference by post. ABM Chartered Accountants submits your application in good time so your references arrive before your first payday.

You can still pay your employees on time. Run the payroll, store the Full Payment Submission, and file it as a late FPS once your reference numbers arrive. ABM Chartered Accountants manages this process so there is no disruption to your first pay run.

Yes. If you pay yourself a salary of 96 pounds or more per week through your limited company, you must register as an employer and operate PAYE. ABM Chartered Accountants sets up PAYE for sole directors as part of our standard service.

Yes. We register you with a workplace pension provider, set up the scheme, assess each employee for eligibility, and manage contributions from your first pay run. This ensures you meet your duties under The Pensions Regulator from day one.

We offer a fixed-fee PAYE registration and setup package that covers the HMRC application, software configuration, pension setup, and your first pay run. Contact ABM Chartered Accountants for a quote based on the size of your team.
