Change of Company Name for UK Businesses Filed Correctly With Companies House
Rebranding your business starts with changing your company name at Companies House. ABM Chartered Accountants checks your new name is available, drafts the shareholder resolution, files the application, and updates HMRC so your records match your new identity from day one.
Your Company Name Changed Quickly and Correctly
Changing your company name requires a special resolution passed by at least 75 percent of shareholders, a name that complies with Companies House naming rules, and a filing that is accepted by the registrar. ABM Chartered Accountants manages the entire process so your new name is registered without delays, rejections, or compliance issues.
Our ICAEW and ACCA qualified accountants check your proposed name against the Companies House register and naming restrictions, draft the special resolution, file the application digitally, receive your updated certificate of incorporation, notify HMRC of the change, and advise you on what else needs updating.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here are answers to the company name change questions we hear most often. Contact our team for guidance.
How do I change my company name?
You need to pass a special resolution approved by at least 75 percent of shareholders, check that the new name complies with Companies House naming rules, and file form NM01 with Companies House. ABM Chartered Accountants handles the resolution, the checks, and the filing for you.
How much does a company name change cost?
The Companies House filing fee for a standard digital name change is 20 pounds. The same-day digital service costs 85 pounds from February 2026. ABM Chartered Accountants includes the filing fee in our service and manages the entire process from name check to certificate.
How long does the name change take?
A standard digital filing is usually processed by Companies House within one to two working days. The same-day service is processed on the day of submission. Once approved, you receive an updated certificate of incorporation on change of name confirming the new company name.
Does my company number change?
No. Your company registration number stays the same. Only the name changes. Your filing history, accounts, and all previous records continue under the new name. ABM Chartered Accountants ensures all your records, including HMRC and bank details, are updated to reflect the change.
What names are not allowed?
Companies House restricts names that are offensive, too similar to an existing company, or contain sensitive words such as Royal, British, Authority, or Council without prior approval. Names that suggest a connection to government or imply a regulated activity also require permission. We check all of this before filing.
What do I need to update after the name change?
You need to update your bank account, HMRC records, VAT registration, contracts, invoices, letterheads, website, and any regulatory registrations. Your company seal, if you have one, also needs replacing. ABM Chartered Accountants provides a checklist and notifies HMRC on your behalf.
